Where Your Muse's Come to Life

Mixtape Review: Dreamchasers - Meek Mill

From its intro you can feel the energy and excitement Meek Mill often brings to the table when he spits. The sinister beat and Mill’s energetic tales of the streets and jail immediately catch the attention of any listener. Easily one of the top mixtapes this year with tracks that are very much album worthy. Its no wonder the mixtape game is heating up the way it is when you have artist going so hard lyrically and picking some of the hardest beats to spit over. In Mills’ case he has both the lyrical skills and the beats to hold them up. Having DJ Drama hosting only serves as an added bonus. While I will say not every single track held my attention all the way through I will say I only hit next two or three times and it was usually only after I heard Meek’s verse because the feature could not hold it up. Which by no means was the case on tracks that featured Philly’s giants Young Chris and another with Beanie Sigel. House Party ft. Young Chris was well just that. “I tell her meet me in the bathroom” if that ain’t what we go to house parties for I don’t know what is. Chris was fitting for the track as he rides the beat even paying homage to Martin’s role in the movie House Party..SWITCH…HA HA! Then there is the Sigel assisted title cut Dreamchasers. Sigel was spitting raw solid bars reminding me of the Can’t be life days. With Meek Mill holding his own on the track spitting some pain of his own as he spits about the hardships of trying to make it out of the streets. One of Dreamchasers most notable tracks Tony Story produced by Jahlil Beats has been a trending topic on twitter and for good reason. This could be one of the best storytellers since Joe Budden on 3 sides to a Story.  One of my favorite joints is Middle of the Summer. It’s just a smooth beat with Meek going in about the summer around his way and what it was like. If you ever been in or around the hood you can relate to this ode to the summer for sure. Mel Love came right in and did his thing as he told his own summer tales. While Dreamchasers also boast some of Meek Mill’s best offerings heard on other mixtapes or even the MMG Self Made Album, it had enough new material to keep me tuned in. My summer anthem Ima Boss can pop up on every mixtape from now to next year and my reaction will be the same from now till then. That song goes so hard I couldn’t imagine it not included. Middle of the Summer and Work are two other tracks that were heard prior to Dreamchasers but are nicely thrown into pot. Over all I would say the hype surrounding Dreamchasers was well deserved and was matched by the intensity of the mixtape. While Dj Drama and Mill’s have teamed up before this to me is the best mixtape to date the two have put out together. Meek Mill is making a hell of a name for himself. He was the standout artist in my opinion on the MMG Self Made album. Since signing to Rick Ross’ Mayback Music Group Mill’s has been on a constant rise to fame and notoriety. If Dreamchasers is just a prelude to what he has cooking up for his first album on the MMG imprint, it’s one hell of a start.
